The Man with the Yellow Face

For this project I did a number of illustrations for Anthony Horowitz's novel 'The Man with the Yellow Face' which is part of the short horror stories collection 'Horowitz Horror', published in 1999.

This particular story is about a boy who gets his photo taken at a train station, in a sinister photo booth which produces pictures that foretell future events. The picture he gets shows a grown up with a hideously deformed yellow face. The train he boards crashes and injures him severely, leaving him with the same yellow face as the one in the photo.

I wanted to capture the eerie, uneasy atmosphere the story breathed when reading it. I used neocolour wax pastels, and then edited them digitally to incorporate the yellow into the illustrations.
